Couples on the Brink

Discernment Counseling

Are you or your partner considering divorce, but not sure if its the right path?

Do you want to gain clarity and confidence about what steps to take next with your marriage?

Are you interested in taking one more look at your relationship before making a permanent decision?

Is your spouse talking about divorce, but you really want to save your marriage?

Discernment counseling is a short term process ranging from one to five sessions, designed to help couples where one partner is leaning towards divorce and the other wants to preserve the marriage.

The focus of Discernment Counseling is not on solving marital issues, but on evaluating the possibility of those issues being solved, emphasizing the importance of each partner seeing their own contributions to the problems and possible solutions.

Discernment Counseling leads to a decision to either divorce, give the marriage a last major effort with a clear agenda for change, or take a time out and decide later.

Sessions involve separate conversations with each partner, as well as time as a couple. The goal is for the couple to gain clarity and confidence about a direction, based on a deeper understanding of the relationship and its possibilities for the future.

Number of Sessions:

• A maximum of five counseling sessions.
• The first session is usually two hours and costs $300.
• The subsequent are 1h 25min - 2 hours ($225-300).
